Sekvensering, Galleri Tapper-Popermajer, Sweden Nov.22 – Dec.22

Untitled-1Set in a centuries old train station in the tiny town of Teckomatorp, Galleri Tapper-Popermajer is a cultural destination within the Skane region of Southern Sweden. Here one finds great art and authentic Swedish hospitality. Having travelled all the way from Toronto, Canada, artist Anda Kubis has installed a new solo exhibition of digital paintings and works on paper. The exhibition is titled Sekvensering (Sequencing).

In this new body of work Kubis further explores the digital painting by distinctly playing with the multiple layers that make up various large, complex digital paintings. The manipulation of the sequences of layers allows for the inexhaustible production of unique cropped configurations of imagery. Where the paintings on canvas employ a vast number of layers conversely, in the works on paper, Kubis limits herself to a maximum of five layers. She takes random cuts from within the existing paintings challenging herself to make engaging compositions from these cuts. In the puzzle-like nature of her process Kubis embraces chance ‘operations’ while also imposing decisive creative problem solving. It is the fluidity of this digital process that allows Kubis a rich and generative artistic experience.  This work continues her decades long interest in improvisation as an important aspect of painterly abstraction historically and through her own emphasis upon it within the contemporary technological environment.

The seemingly random processes and colourful compositions contrast the ordered and reserved landscape of southern Sweden. The uniquely dedicated community that is Galleri Tapper-Popermajer welcomes Anda Kubis for her second solo exhibition at the gallery.
